Members of the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme (MRPS) aged 65 and above can now use their pension savings to reserve a spot for the mandatory Hajj pilgrimage, the Maldives Pension Administration Office said on 5 November 2026.

The Office said the regulation needed under the sixth amendment to the Maldives Pension Act has been gazetted and has come into effect. The Gazette lists it as Regulation No. 92-R/2026, published on 5 November 2026.

What changes

Before the amendment, people aged 65 and above, and people who turned 65 by the time their Hajj spot was confirmed, could not use money in their Retirement Savings Account (RSA) to reserve a spot. The Office said eligible members of any age can now do so. This covers people who could not reserve a spot because of their age and those who turn 65 while waiting for confirmation.

Who qualifies

  • The member has not performed the mandatory Hajj before.

  • The member holds at least MVR 336,000 in the RSA.

  • A member who has used pension savings as collateral under the Housing Benefit must still hold MVR 336,000 after the collateralised amount is deducted.

How the payment works

  • The member pays 20 percent of the total Hajj price to the Maldives Hajj Corporation.

  • A spot is then reserved in the established order.

  • The remaining 80 percent is not deducted from the RSA straight away. It stays invested until it is transferred to the Maldives Hajj Corporation.

When pension payouts are calculated for current pensioners and newly retiring MRPS members, the amount reserved for Hajj is left out of the calculation, the Office said.

The Pension Office lists its hotline as 1441.
