Malé City Council says it has simplified online resident registration through the Maavehi portal by resolving difficulties applicants faced.

A One Online report published on 9 October 2026, citing a council announcement, said many applicants had faced difficulties before the changes. They had applied through the portal to change their registered residence.

One difficulty was having to visit the council office to submit the photograph required for the resident registration certificate. The council noted that requiring an office visit despite applying online had caused additional inconvenience for the public.

The council said councillors and the Vital Registration Department had worked together to resolve these difficulties. It said the service was now available through the portal without the problems applicants previously faced.

The council urged those seeking resident registration to apply through the Maavehi portal. It also said it prioritised identifying and resolving difficulties people face when accessing services.
