Funeral prayers for Maldivian student Aaminath Imeely Nazim, who died in a car crash in Malaysia, are scheduled for October 6 after Maghrib.

The Maldives High Commission in Malaysia announced the arrangements, according to SunOnline. Prayers will take place at Masjid Al-Irshad in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Imeely, 21, was from Maarish in Hithadhoo, Addu City. Her family has asked as many Maldivians living in Malaysia as possible to attend the funeral prayers, according to the announcement.

She died on Sunday night while travelling home by taxi after visiting a shopping mall. Another Maldivian student in the same vehicle sustained minor injuries, the report said.

SunOnline cited Subang Jaya district police Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan as saying the crash happened at about 8:48 p.m. near the PJS toll plaza. The taxi was travelling towards Puchong on the NPE expressway.

According to the police account carried in the report, the 37-year-old taxi driver lost control of the vehicle before it struck another car.

The taxi hit the rear-right side of a Proton S70 that was heading towards an RFID toll lane, police said. The impact caused the taxi to overturn on the road.

Imeely was trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene from serious injuries, according to the report. The other Maldivian student’s injuries were described as minor, but the supplied material gave no further details about that student’s condition.

Police tested urine samples from both drivers, the report said. The taxi driver tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the police findings reported by SunOnline.

A court authorised police to hold the taxi driver for four days while they investigated the crash. The supplied report did not state whether any charges had been filed.

The funeral announcement concerns prayers in Malaysia. The supplied material does not give separate details about burial arrangements.
