MTCC has begun work on the section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu near Rasfannu in Malé.
According to Sun Online’s report dated 5 October 2026, the road’s IGMH-side lane has been closed for the works. The report said photos shared by MTCC showed paving stones being removed from that section.
The report also cited MTCC as saying it planned to begin wall construction that week. The government aims to complete the entire project and open the road to the public in November 2026.
Work near Rasfannu began after the section between Henveiru Ferry Terminal and Malé North Harbour was completed and opened. Asphalt has been laid along 1.145 kilometres of that completed section.
Work on that section included reclaiming part of the lagoon and widening the road to four lanes. A wall, a drainage system and parking space for 500 motorcycles have also been built. These figures relate to the section already opened.
Other efforts to improve Malé’s roads include repairs to Ameenee Magu. The report also said roads in Malé and Vilimalé would be upgraded with assistance from China.
