HBO and Warner Bros. Television have announced an 8-episode TV series continuing the story of the film Crazy Rich Asians.

This time, the story will continue on television rather than in another film. Showrunner Adele Lim said the episodic format would allow more room to explore the world and characters in Kevin Kwan’s books.

Lim also co-wrote the original film’s screenplay. She will serve as both showrunner and executive producer on the new series. The film’s director, Jon M. Chu, and author Kevin Kwan will also serve as executive producers.

Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng will reprise their roles from the film. All three stars will be series regulars.

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will also reprise her role as Eleanor Young. She will appear in a recurring role in selected episodes.

Filming is scheduled to begin in 2027, but a release date has yet to be announced.

The original Crazy Rich Asians film was released in 2018. It earned US$239 million at the worldwide box office.
