OpenAI says it has introduced GPT-6 and a new ChatGPT interface with tools users can use directly within responses. The company has named the new interface Intelligent UI.
According to the company’s statement, the change brings text, visuals and interactive elements together in a single response. The elements included will vary depending on the user’s question.
OpenAI says responses will include buttons, forms, charts, graphics and widgets. Users will be able to interact directly with these elements, rather than simply read the response.
The company’s examples include calculators, bill-splitting tools and small games. It says users can ask ChatGPT to create such tools within the chat.
Explaining the technology behind the new interface, the company says it uses a compiler that processes the interface as the response is generated. This means the presentation of a response is prepared as the model begins generating it.
OpenAI says GPT-6 will begin responding even before it finishes its reasoning stage. For questions requiring web searches, the company claims it will begin responding an average of 44 percent faster than GPT-5.6. This figure measures how quickly a response starts, not the time taken to complete the entire response.
OpenAI says the GPT-6 Luna model will start becoming available to free users and Go plan users on 8 October 2026. The company’s details also specify where the update will apply.
OpenAI says the change applies to the Chat tab. Models used in Work and Codex will remain unchanged by this update. The announcement therefore does not represent a uniform change to models across all the company’s platforms.
