MTCC began construction of six finger jetties at Malé North Harbour on 6 October 2026.
The project costs MVR 18.98 million. The jetties will be built in two sizes.
Three jetties will be 25 metres long, and three will be 15 metres long. All six jetties will be six metres wide.
Citing MTCC, the report said the completed jetties would ease harbour congestion and make boarding and disembarking easier for passengers.
The company highlighted that passengers currently have to cross other speedboats moored alongside the quay to reach those berthed further out. It said the new jetties would resolve this difficulty.
MTCC also expects increased berthing capacity to speed up journeys and improve passenger safety.
The report did not specify a scheduled completion date for the project.
